Our story
Professional Role Players Ltd humbly started in the 1990s, with only a handful of London role players and one man’s vision; to improve peoples’ lives through drama-based learning. Now, we are the largest suppliers of role players in the UK and are delivering examinations across the globe.
1980s
Phill Doulton, the company founder, created and ran workshops to help improve the lives of people with mental health issues and acute learning difficulties. From this, he saw the impact that drama had on behavioural change.
1992
Phill pioneered the first Communications Teaching Programme at Guys Hospital, Kings College London.
1997
Professional Role Players launched as the first role play company dedicated to medical education by husband-and-wife team, Phill and Fosty.
1999
Branched out to the corporate sector, delivering programmes to clients including banks and travel companies.
2003
Awarded a nationwide contract, providing role players to multiple locations in the UK.
2011
Phill and Fosty’s daughters, Danielle and Christina, joined the growing team after graduating with a BA and an MA, making PRP the first company to house two generations.
2012
Launched the quality assured PRP+ programme, dedicated to training our role players to the highest standard.
2013
First role play company to introduce actors with learning difficulties in medical examinations
2014
Rebranding of the company devised by our marketing team. Introducing our new logo, website, and our bespoke database system.
First role play company to introduce transgender stations in medical examinations
2017
PRP celebrates its 20th birthday with some of our longest-serving role players
2018
Medical teaching expands internationally
2019
OSCE assessments reach an all-time high, supplying over 800 role players in just 4 working days.
2020
Launched Osler Online, a fully automated programme designed to deliver examinations and training.
2021
Professional Role Player achieved global status, delivering training and examinations in India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and Africa.
